I am Caleb Honiss, founder and owner of Mt Grey Building Limited and “The Decking Guys” Brand - a next generation construction business that specialises exclusively in decking.
My South Island roots in building - from apprentice to qualified tradesman - has been a focused journey gaining experience and excellence working on major renovations and new architecturally designed homes. I have also developed a flair for concept design.
From the outset, my goal was to own my own business and it was in 2012 with the Christchurch rebuild in full swing that the opportunity came earlier than expected to establish myself as a professional builder.
I accrued further skills contracting to a large Canterbury landscaping company and it was during this time that I identified a valuable niche in the building market that was largely uncatered for which was Decking - an essential value added feature to optimise indoor outdoor flow and enhance the landscaping theme which is the most important wow factor in the presentation of an attractive dwelling.
In 2014, I formed Mt Grey Building Limited to take the specialised decking business forward.
Decking, built to last and with maximum visual appeal and functionality to complement the main living structure and surrounds, requires individual innovative design, the highest standards of workmanship and best materials to produce a striking end product.
I have hand picked highly skilled tradesmen and contractors who I know consistently deliver a high-quality result and it is these individuals who make up my construction teams.
With each and every job we take on, I personally review the client’s wish list and initiate the key design elements in concert with professional draughtsmen and engineers to formalise the final construction and compliance brief.
It gives me great satisfaction to see my client’s dreams come to fruition.
